Day 1: Lisbon-Porto

Welcome to Portugal, once group is assembled, we will transfer to Porto for free time and a welcome dinner. Porto is one of the oldest European centers and the city itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 2: Porto – Peneda Geres

Observe the flora and fauna of Peneda Geres National Park. Spend 4 hours hiking, and cool off in a clear lagoon at the base of a waterfall.  Have a picnic lunch in one of the small villages.

Day 3: Porto Exploration and Wines

A day of urban exploration of lovely Porto catching the sights, the waterfront and, of course, a visit to a wine cellar!

Day 4: Lisbon

Enjoy a final morning in Porto. Transfer to Lisbon for lunch and an afternoon walking tour hitting some of Lisbon’s sights and waterfront.  We’ll work our way through some must-try treats such as Pastel de Nata (custard tart), Pastel de Belem (egg tart), and Bolinhos de Bacalhau (salt cod cakes).

Day 5: Lisbon - Sintra

One can say that a visit to the fairytale castle of Sintra and nearby Quinta da Regaleira is one of the single most remarkable sightseeing and exploring days one can have in all of Europe.

Day 6: Vila Nova Milfontes

2 hours south of Lisbon is the fames Alentejo region. We’ll stay two nights at Vila Nova Milfontes, a charming small town located right along the most beautiful stretch of the Alentejo coastline. Take a walk through town and explore the beach.  Dinner on your own.

Day 7: Rota Vicentina, The Fisherman’s Trail, Vila Nova Milfontes

The Ruta Vicentina, Fisherman’s Trail, is a network of 450 km of paths running down the whole coastline of the South West of Portugal, through both Alentejo and the Algarve. It’s divided into two trails: the Historical Way (inland) and the Fishermen’s Way (coastal).  The Alentejo region is stunning and no wonder it has received “must-visit destinations” by Lonely Planet. Hike the most scenic section from Ilha Pesseguiero to Milhao. This 7 ½ miles section covers wide beaches, rocky cliffs, and tall dunes. If you are lucky, you can spot storks nesting atop sea-stacks.

Day 8: Lower Fisherman’s Trail - Lagos

Explore the lower Rota Vicentina. Transfer to beautiful Amoreira Beach, inside Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Hike 5.5 miles to the Arrifana viewpoint and beach. After lunch, proceed south to the southern tip of Portugal and the Algarve region. You will love seaside Lagos with its cobblestone streets, ice cream parlors, open-air seafood restaurants and gorgeous beaches adorned with massive sculpted sea-stacks. Lunch and Dinner on your own.

Day 9: Lagos

Rest, shop for cork souvenirs, walk to the castle just above town. Tonight, we have our farewell dinner and try our best to come up with our one special highlight from our incredible journey.

Day 10: Tour ends

We end our tour after breakfast. Some folks may choose to stay on for additional days in Lagos or other parts of the Algarve, or perhaps hop across to Spain. Otherwise, there are numerous buses and trains heading back to Lisbon.
