Great news from ECPAT on the Fight of Exploitation and Trafficking

Two wonderful pieces of news from ECPAT worth sharing…

Hilton Foundation Joins the Fight

ECPAT, the leading global network of organizations dedicated to stopping the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC), has been selected to receive the 2013 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize of $1.5 million, the world’s largest humanitarian prize. This is the 18th year for the Hilton Prize given by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation to an organization that is significantly alleviating human suffering.  The announcement was made today at a Consultation convened by ECPAT to develop an action plan to combat child trafficking, prostitution and pornography in Africa which has been growing due to increased tourism, family breakdowns, greater access to new technologies, unsafe migration and widespread poverty.

FBI Rescues 105 and Arrests 150

The FBI in alliance with law enforcement agencies and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) launched Operation Cross Country – a three-day operation in 76 cities across America, resulting in the rescue of 105 underage sex trafficking victims, and the arrests of over 150 charged with perpetrating their commercial sexual exploitation. Operation Cross Country was the largest enforcement action implemented in the county so far.  Operation Cross Country was part of the Innocence Lost National Initiative, which has resulted in the identification and recovery of over 2,700 children who have been sexually exploited since the national initiative’s conception in 2003.   “Child prostitution remains a persistent threat to children across America,” said Ron Josko, assistant director of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division. “This operation serves as a reminder that these abhorrent crimes can happen anywhere, and the FBI remains committed to stopping this cycle of victimization and holding the criminals who profit from this exploitation accountable.”
