World Water Week
World Water Week in Meaningful Trip’s backyard… Seattle, WA. World Water Week was started at Chief Sealth High School by senior Molly Freed. What started as a passion of one interested student to try to make a difference has turned into a celebrated yearly festival. Way to go Molly for making a BIG splash! We attended yesterday’s festival. Hundreds of students at Chief Sealth had displays on water, water security, water conflict, sanitation, fracking, plastics.
Meaningful Trip founder, Joe Staiano
Environmental artist, Chris Jordan was the keynote speaker and shocked the audience with images of what 1 million discarded plastic bottles looks like and what 1 million discarded cell phones looks like.
He then showed sobering images from his time on Midway documenting plastics affects on albatross. On this remote pacific island, tens of thousands of albatross die each year from plastic trash that is ingested. Watch his 3-minute trailer for upcoming documentary, Midway. http://www.vimeo.com/25563376
Chris talked about how in a world of war, pollution, climate catastrophe, corruption, one of the biggest problems we face as humans is that
We have become DISCONNECTED
Is there hope?
Is there a solution?
